Lauren Wheeler, owner of Skin and Ink by Lauren, is an expert when it comes to beautiful skin. She is an esthetician micropigmentologist and has worked in the industry for nearly a decade.
We reached out to her to share her top tips on preparing your skin for your headshot. Here’s what she had to say:
Before we get started on the DO’s to prepare your skin, let’s talk about the DONT"‘s. It’s crucial that you not start any new products shortly before your shoot. New products can cause dryness, sensitivity, allergic reaction, purging, and breakouts.
One week before your photoshoot (daily routine):
Wash face with a gentle cleanser
Gently exfoliate with a manual exfoliator 2-3 per week.
Use a gentle toner to ph balance the skin
Apply your favorite hydrating/brightening eye cream
Moisturize
SPF
The night before your photoshoot:
Wash face with a gentle cleanser
Massage face with gentle exfoliator and rinse
Exfoliate lips
Apply Vitamin C or your favorite serum (optional)
Apply your favorite hydrating lip balm. (It should be color/tint free)
Gently massage your favorite face moisturizer (don’t forget your neck!)
Morning of your photoshoot:
Wash face with gentle face cleanser
Tone
Apply favorite eye cream and face moisturizer
SPF
Apply lip balm
